Hands of Hope is a community initiative restoring hope for vulnerable children and families in Kampala, Uganda through education, health, community support, and practical skills development.
Amara was just eleven years old when her mother, the family's only income earner, lost her job at a local market stall. Overnight, the modest fees that kept Amara in school became impossible to afford. She stayed home for nearly a full term, helping care for her younger siblings while her mother searched for work.
A community volunteer connected the family to Hands of Hope, and within weeks Amara was back in the classroom this time with her school fees, books, and uniform fully provided through our Education Learning program. Beyond the material support, Amara was paired with a mentor who checks in with her monthly, helping her navigate schoolwork and personal challenges alike.
Today, Amara is thriving. She consistently ranks among the top students in her class and speaks confidently about her goal of becoming a nurse. "I want to help people the way Hands of Hope helped me," she says. Her story is a reminder that with the right support at the right moment, a single setback doesn't have to define a child's future.
Every child deserves a chance. Amara's is still being written.
